Jean Giraud Moebius legacy is as alive as ever thanks to Moebius Productions, the gallery/shop located in Paris that has been in charge of publishing his latest books, prints and all kind of merchandise.   If you are planning to visit it, it's open on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 to 13h and from 14 to 18h.

Mœbius Production is Jean Giraud Moebius' publishing and production company since 1997. It is based in the 15th district of Paris in the MOEBIUS gallery at 27 rue Falguière. This house was founded by Jean Giraud Mœbius and his wife Isabelle Giraud, joined by Claire Champeval in 1998 and Raphael Giraud, Nausicâa Giraud in 2017. 

Moebius Production has organized, managed and collaborated at numerous events around the world. Large exhibitions are organized in Europe and Asia and notably in Paris at the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art in 2010. The exhibition Môbius Transe Forme was a great success and a great impact, with more than 125,000 visitors. 

Mœbius Production publishes Jean Giraud's books, but also silkscreens, engravings and limited art objects that are becoming rare and sought after. The publishing and production company is present, from the artistic direction to the final realization, the many requests for collaboration in various fields of animation, film, events and the press. 

It is a society rich in adventure built around the creative process of Jean Giraud and whose vocation today is to continue to live an exceptional artistic heritage.

SYNOPSIS 

This fascinating documentary explores the genesis of one of cinema's greatest epics that never was: cult filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky's (EL TOPO) adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic Dune, whose cast would have included such icons as Salvador Dali, Orson Welles and Mick Jagger. In 1975, following the runaway success of his art-house freak-outs EL TOPO and HOLY MOUNTAIN, Alejandro Jodorowsky secured the rights to Frank Herbert's Dune - and began work on what was gearing up to be a cinematic game-changer, a sci-fi epic unlike anything the world had ever seen. 

Jodorowsky enlisted an elite group of artistic mercenaries, including French comic book artist Moebius, who illustrated the storyboards; screenwriter Dan O'Bannon (DARK STAR, ALIEN); artist H.R. Giger (ALIEN); and sci-fi paperback illustrator Chris Foss. For the cast, he lined up icons ranging from Salvador Dali and Mick Jagger to Orson Welles, and even his own son, who was put through two years of gruelling martial arts training to prepare for his role. Unfortunately, the film was never made. 

Director Frank Pavich tackles one of cinema's most enthralling "what could have been" stories, weaving interviews with the charismatic Jodorowsky, his collaborators, and supporters (including DRIVE director Nicolas Winding Refn), together with animation to bring Moebius' storyboards to life. Even though the project exists only in the imaginations of its creators, and as the hundreds of illustrations they left behind, Pavich's documentary chooses not to dwell on failure, but rather celebrates the ways in which the creative dreams of Dune planted seeds for many other iconic films that came after it, from STAR WARS to ALIEN to countless more. This is an inspirational story about the power of the creative spirit, one that establishes Jodorowsky as a master of cinema and a true visionary of our time.

Jean Giraud dies at age 73

Moebius is gone. After a long illness Jean Giraud passed away today. When you have read and stare at drawings of someone for such a long time as I have to Giraud's ones, you have the feeling of knowing him for a long time. You believe you understand him the same way you understand your best friends. But this is a kind of a different friendship in wich you can only know about the other when a new album is released or when someone interviews him or just when you discover something old you haven't read before in a book store or surffing the net. It's a weird friendship. But it's ever weirder to realize that of those three actual real ways to know something about your "friend", now only the last one is left. Rest in peace Jean.

Miyazaki-Moebius

Today opened in La Monnaie de Paris a Exhibition featuring the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Jean Giraud 'Moebius'. Both artists have shown the respect for each others work for a long time and it's great to finally see their works together in a retrospective exhibition. A 104 pages catalog was published.
