How Amazon transfers data to AWS

Video info:
Demand for cloud computing from providers like Amazon Web Services continues to rise from both companies and consumers that rely on remote storage and computing power accessible from anywhere. While other tech giants Google, Microsoft, and IBM are vying to be the go-to providers, Amazon remains the undisputed leader in cloud computing.
Amazon Web Services is behind much of the technology we use every day, from streaming your favorite shows on Netflix to calling a car from Lyft. AWS has been one of Amazon’s most profitable business endeavors as companies abandon their own data centers for Amazon Web Services. Amazon said it has more 4,000 government contracts as well.
But moving data from local servers to the AWS cloud servers can be a challenge. Amazondeveloped physical and rugged products called the Snowball and the Snowmobile to help companies transfer data to the cloud. CNBC got a rare inside look at how Amazon Web Services transfers a large amount of data to the cloud.

My first sale in Amazon marketplace

Amazon.es arrived in Spain not so long ago and I immediately made an inventory of the books I already didn't need and opened a Seller Central account. Amazon's interface is really nice, intuitive and useful and best of all it's free, you just have to pay if you sell an item. Today I sold my first book:

DVD - Helmut Newton: Frames from the Edge

Yesterday I watched a  1988 Helmut Newton documentary directed by Adrian Maben. Through many interviews and behind the camera featurettes, Maben depicts perfectly the creative process behind Helmut Newtons awesome photographic works. A must see for anyone interested in photography.

Starting Point 1979-1996 by Hayao Miyazaki

It's great being at home on Christmas. Visiting family, eating well at home, playing Nintendo games  with my brother and seeing old friends. It's also great to take a look back to my old stuff; mostly books and movies. As I don't like carrying heavy stuff around, since I got the Kindle, I almost don't read on paper, but I remember I left at home a couple of books that have not been published on digital, just yet.

One of these books is a collection of essays, lectures and comments written from 1979 to 1996 by Hayao Miyazaki, published in Japan under the title 出発点―1979~1996 on August 1996 and that Viz Media published in English on August 2009 as Starting Point: 1979-1996. These readings are a unique opportunity to dig deep inside Miyazaki's head and understand his thoughts on manga, animation and even  Japanese society and culture in those first years in which he went from being an animator at TOEI to founding together with Isao Takahata, one of the most successful animation studios in Japan: Studio Ghibli.

I Hope the English translation of the second volume titled in Japanese: 折り返し点―1997~2008 and published on July 2008 is already on its way. If I would know how to read Japanese, I wouldn't have to wait more but that's my tragedy. I should start learning one of this days.

The welcome letter from Jeff Bezos:

MEMORIES by Otomo, Morimoto & Okamura

Memories is an animated anthology conformed by three short films by directors Koji Morimoto, Tensai Okamura and Katsuhiro Otomo. This is the first Japanese DVD edition released in 1999 that came in a Laser Disc size box with the original cinema release booklet. Its original price was around 100€ but someone was selling it like new for just 15€ shipping included. So I added another Katsuhiro Otomo related item to my never ending Otomo stuff collection.

MUSHISHI directed by Katsuhiro Otomo

Mushishi was released in a collectors box set on 2007, but it was so expensive that I didn't buy it. Today I found it at a bargain price in Amazon Marketplace. The box is awesome, designed with a beautiful paper and combining different textures and transparencies. It includes tho discs and two booklets with the script and many sketches by Otomo himself.

Kindle time!

Today I ordered the Amazon Kindle. My first eBook reader. I believe 140€ it's a reasonably price to finally decide to buy one. I have been looking forward to this day since two years ago when Amazon released it's first Kindle but the prices then were much more prohibitive for a penniless student like me. It's going to be great to have a device to read without carrying books around. The 3rd generation Kindle is available in Amazon: US / ES / JP

EXTRA + ROCK MONSTER STRIKES BACK by Ken Ishii

I ordered this CD because of it's cover art drawn by Katsuhiro Otomo. I then realize that the author Ken Ishii EXTRA had a great music animation video directed by Koji Morimoto, who has collaborated with Otomo in many occasions.

I remember watching Alfred J. Kwak on TV when I was a kid. This animation serie was different to others. Always sad things happened to little Alfred. But it was great. I saw this single on Amazon Japan and I ordered. It's a 8cm CD with just two tracks, in a kind of a wide box I never saw before but I suppose it's common in Japan.

Richard Rogers Box Set

The first time I learned about architect Richard Rogers' work was in my first year of college. I did a presentation work about Centre Pompidou building in Paris by architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. I immediately got fascinated with the building and specially with the early seventies projects of those young architects.

There are various books collecting the works of Richard Rogers. I once borrowed from the school Library Richard Rogers+Architects a book published by Academy Editions in 1985. It was so used and deteriorated that I scan it to preserve it and try to restore it before bringing it back.

Another book I took home those days was Richard Rogers complete works volume 1 and volume 2. Both were thick hardcover books. Some years later a third volume was published and the three of them were collected as paperbacks in a fancy pink box. Now that this box is on sale in Amazon I just ordered it.

AKIRA ANIME COMICS

It is usual in Japan to make printed book adaptations of animation films an TV series taking still frames and adding texts bubbles and sound effects. Those books are commonly knows as Anime Comics. AKIRA the epic movie by Katsuhiro Otomo has its comic adaptation too. Those five volumes featuring cover art by Katsuhiro Otomo were released in Japan in 1988 from August to December that same year and were re-released in year 2000 with a slight change of the cover design. Today I found this edition inn amazon Japan Marketplace . Four volumes at a great price and with the  same shipping costs of one. Check Amazon Japan for availability.
